Third Friday Presents: Tracking Aviation's Trailblazers: By the Waterways

Friday, April 18th at 7pm

Kathleen Alonso discusses air mail development during the 1920s and 30s, and how it was affected by physical waterways as well as the maritime industry. The United States Post Office created the nation's first transcontinental aerial route, which would become the backbone of today's aviation system, and it could not have been done without technology and ideas first found in the shipping industry.

Kathleen has been researching the air mail service for 20 years. She has a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha, has worked at the Durham Museum in Omaha, and is currently a docent at the Evanston History Center.

The lecture hall of the museum will be ready to welcome a crowd on April 18th; seating is limited, reserve your place today. Virtual seats are also available with a live connection to the Q&A that follows.
