Maritime Midwest Modern Exhibit Opening

About the Exhibit Opening

On May 1, the Chicago Maritime Museum will open a new temporary exhibition, Maritime Midwest Modern, which will explore how the waterways of our region shaped architecture, and so our lives, in sometimes surprising ways..

From the inland seas of the Great Lakes to the rivers that have connected communities for millennia, the Midwest is anything but landlocked. The lighthouses, public works projects, and waterfront homes featured in this exhibition often act as beautiful proof of that waterborne legacy.

Josh Lipnik, the photographer and writer behind Midwest Modern, a wide survey of Midwestern art, architecture and design, is a natural fit to curate the exhibition and to photograph its subjects.

Doors open at 6pm, and at 7pm, CMM curator Madeline Crispell will welcome patrons and introduce Josh, who will walk visitors through the exhibition and discuss the architecture featured in the show.

The exhibition opening will be $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Light refreshments will be served.
