Save Saturday, November 30, for a rousing afternoon and evening of magical music and storytelling by Lee Murdock at the Chicago Maritime Museum, 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. This is an all-ages performance sure to ring in the season of holiday gatherings.
The party starts with admission to the Chicago Maritime Museum where all ages enjoy the two new interactive exhibits in the South Gallery, Bill Pinkney, Solo Circumnavigator and the Lady Elgin Disaster. Docents will be on hand to enrich your experience.
A kids activity table will offer maritime-themed learning and amusement, until the two-set concert begins at 7pm. Pre-order your holiday gifts from Lee at Lee Murdock | Musician and Storyteller; take advantage of free delivery at the party.
Third Friday Lecture
John William Nelson, Assistant Professor of History at Texas Tech University, explores the ways ecology and geography shaped the terms of cross-cultural interaction between Native peoples and European colonizers from first contact through the early republican era of the United States. He is the author of Muddy Ground: Native Peoples, Chicago's Portage, and theTransformation of a Continent, which explores how a particular local landscape along Chicago's continental divide influenced colonial encounters from the seventeenth through the nineteenth centuries.
In conjunction with the Bridgeport Art Center's Third Friday Open House, the Chicago Maritime Museum opens its doors for lively presentations on maritime history and current events each month. Please note: this lecture will take place on the fourth Friday and is therefore independent of Open House. Join us on Friday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m. either in person or virtually.
The museum will still be open the night of Third Friday Open House, November 15th, for visitors to enjoy.
The presentation is $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members. However, you might just consider joining the CMM for an annual membership of just $35, which provides unlimited visits, access to our monthly newsletter and special events such as the Third Friday maritime lecture series.
We are located on the lower level of the Bridgeport Art Center at 1200 W 35th Street. Parking is free in the north lot.

Third Friday Lecture
Author, exhibit designer, and underwater explorer, Valerie van Heest, will focus on the many ethical dilemmas surrounding the steamship Lady Elgin, lost in 1860. The Great Lakes' most deadly shipwreck disaster led to the longest legal battle over the wreckage. The museum will showcase, for the first time, some of the many artifacts recovered from the wreck, including muskets and swords that were destined for use in the Civil War.
Valerie will sign books at the event.
