Schooners

A schooner is a fore-and-aft rigged ship with two or more masts. The physical properties of schooners were dictated by purpose, resources, and the environment. Schooners were well suited for the shallow port and narrow river. They could sail close to the wind and required a small crew. Among the most important features of the schooner were its large hatches that gave access to the hold of the ship, as schooners were bulk-carriers.
